Kannada Bhavana Inauguration Ceremony

A momentous occasion unfolded today as the Kannada community in Melbourne celebrated the grand inauguration of the Melbourne Kannada Bhavan, a long-awaited community center. Located at 1175 Heatherton Road, the center’s inauguration was graced by Colin Brooks MP, the esteemed Minister for Multicultural Affairs & Minister for Housing. Alongside him were notable figures such as Cassandra Fernando MP, Jasen Wood MP, Chandra Bangalore, President of Kannada Sangha  and other leaders and activists from the Melbourne Kannada Sangha and the wider community.

In an inspiring address to the gathered crowd, Colin Brooks MP extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Kannada community for their tireless efforts in establishing the Melbourne Kannada Bhavan. He commended their significant role in fostering a vibrant and harmonious multicultural society in Australia.

Key figures of the Melbourne Kannada Sangha, including President Nagoda Dr. Mahesh Joshi and President of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, along with Jason Wood MP, Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Migrant Services & Multicultural Affairs, took the stage to emphasize the necessity of the bhavan and acknowledge the generous contributions from donors and supporters. The realization of this community center was a cherished dream come true for all involved.

Cassandra Fernando MP, Federal Member for Holt, expressed her excitement and admiration for the establishment of the bhavan, recognizing it as a remarkable achievement for the Kannada community. The bhavan’s significance lies not only in its physical presence but also as a symbol of the Kannada community’s cultural heritage and unity.

The inauguration event witnessed a colorful display of cultural attire as guests and community members proudly adorned traditional dresses, with some sporting the symbolic Mysuru peta, representing the region’s rich cultural heritage.

As the momentous occasion reached its pinnacle, the ceremonial ribbon was cut amidst a round of applause, officially marking the opening of the Melbourne Kannada Bhavan. Attendees were then taken on a tour of the different rooms, including the Kannada books library, showcasing the thoughtful design and layout of the community center.

To mark this joyous occasion, all those present were treated to delectable snacks, adding a festive flavor to the celebration. The welcome team, comprised of esteemed members such as Dr. Avekar, Sujata Hanumanth Reddy, Vijaya Janardhana, and Nagendra V. J., ensured that the event ran smoothly and warmly greeted guests throughout the day.

The Melbourne Kannada Bhavan stands as a testament to the united spirit and vision of the Kannada community in Melbourne.
